After you’ve taken our basic class – it’s time to get in the water. Our skilled guide will show you dry fly, nymphing fishing rigging on actual on the water techniques. We supply all the waders, boots & gear($50 rental value). Learn the basic techniques that will give you the confidence to catch fish wherever you go. The goal is to shorten the learning curve and improve your odds of catching fish on the fly. This group outing is very informal and fun. In order for you to get the most out of this clinic, it is strongly recommended that you complete the Beginning Casting and the Introduction to Fly Fishing classes or their equivalent. Equipment is available at no charge. Reservations taken in store, phone and on-line.

The American River offers countless opportunities to catch steelhead (and salmon) during the fall and winter months. Catch these great fighters on your 5 to 8 weight rods and experience the thrill of fighting great game fish. We will teach you the tricks and techniques that really work using floating and sinking lines-dry flies and wet flies, too. It is strongly recommended that you complete our On-The-Water Clinic for Beginning Anglers (or its eqivalent) before taking this clinic. Equipment is available at no charge. American Fly Fishing Classes
Drift-boats will be used to access both river-right and river-left approaches as the students practice and enhance their spey-casting skills throughout the day. This is not an entry-level class but is designed as a spey fishing tune-up for an up-coming trip or for the angler who wants to further explore spey fishing with different rod-weights. Rod-weights of 6 through 8 will be available, as well as Rio Windcutter and Skagit spey lines. This 8-hour class is limited to no more than six casters so that you have the one-on-one attention that is needed to fully appreciate these incredible tools and Bill will provide customized instruction to improve your current spey casting skill level if you have prior experience. We’ll tie PT Nymph, Wooly Bugger, and an Elk Hair Caddis – 1 fly per Sunday.The skills learned should enable you to tie many different patterns – saving $$ over the years.The class will run from 1000AM – 1130AM and will only cost $2!
