American Fly Fishing Travel

The Lodge The lodge is strategically located so that you can always find fishing areas unaffected by Mother Nature. The fishing areas include the flats, the barrier reef, coastal bays and mangroves, numerous rivers and inland lagoons. Guests stay in the comfortable, well kept Mahogany Lodge, which is located in a setting of tropical greenery and colorful flowers on the bank of the Belize Olde River. Fishing is from 23′ fiberglass Panga skiffs, usually two anglers to a skiff with an experienced professional guide. The flats, cayes, reef, mangrove channels, Belize River, Sibun River, Manatee River, Black Creek, and several other creeks & lagoons in between are the areas fished from the Lodge in a normal five day fishing package. This is a very large area with a great variety of fishing conditions, fish species, and scenery. Game fish species generally found in this area include permit, tarpon, bonefish, snook, barracuda and others. Many species of birds and other wildlife such as Manatees, Howler Monkeys, Iguanas, Turtles, and occasionally Crocodiles may be seen while fishing from the Lodge. Comfortable skiffs, modern outboard engines, and English speaking, professional licensed guides help make this a memorable fishing vacation. Great lodge, great food, unbelievable fishing and hard working guides make this trip very special. The Fishing: The coast of Belize is a complex system of river mouths, creeks, lagoons, flats, small cays, mangrove islands, and the Barrier Reef. The eco system that exists here supports millions of crabs, shrimp, bait fish, and other aquatic life, which is why there is an abundance of game fish; Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook, Snappers, Jacks, Groupers, Cobia, and Barracudas, to name a few. The Belize coast is world known for its Permit fishing. From the lodge, Permit range from 5 to over 30 pounds. The best time to fish for Permit is October through July. This fish is the ultimate fisherman’s trophy. Bonefish within this ecosystem vary from 2 to 8 pounds, with the majority being 4 to 6 pounds. Bone fishing is year round. Bonefish are considered to be one of the most powerful fish, per pound for its size. Tarpon, the silver king, is one of the most acrobatic fish sought by anglers. These fish along the coast of Belize range from 5 to over 200 pounds. The bigger Tarpon are mainly found in the months of March through July and September through November. Smaller Tarpon (5 to 60 lbs) are found year round. The explosive Snook – saltwater bass – can be found in sizes of 5 to 25 pounds. These fish are mainly caught February through November. Snappers, Jacks, Groupers, Cobia, Barracuda and a large variety of other saltwater game fish can be caught year round along the coast of Belize. The months noted above are typically higher concentrations of those particular fish. Rates: 6 nights/5 days Lodge fishing package is US$2,921.00 per person, based on double occupancy. American Fly Fishing Travel

Anglers at Bailey Creek Lodge will enjoy easy access to Bailey Creek, which has open paths, shaded pools and very little streamside brush. The secondary waters of Rock Creek offer a more rugged terrain amid large rocks and trees – this one is for the more adventurous angler. In addition to Bailey Creek and Rock Creek, 3 trout-filled lakes await you. There is a small lake on the property, just above Bailey Creek, that is filled with rainbow trout that are measured in pounds, not inches. The lake can be covered from shore and doesn’t require wading or a float tube (although a float tube is allowed). The unobstructed view to the west offers superb sunsets as you ply the shoreline or drift across the lake in your tube. A spectacular three-acre lake close to the lodge is also full of abundant trophies just waiting for you to come calling. Just five minutes up the road from Bailey Creek, massive brown trout surface in the beautiful, calm waters of Lake Christine. This lake is pproximately seven acres in size! An abundance of shallow waters with typical weed beds make for exciting visual fishing of brown trout and an incredible evening hatch. A beautiful forested setting makes exploring this lake by float tube a real treat. The Lodge sits right above Bailey Creek on the Twin Creeks Ranch below Mt. Lassen. This is a five bedroom, five bath beauty that you will find extremely comfortable. From each room, guests can relax to the sounds of rushing stream waters, which are both soothing and invigorating. The bedrooms are on the bottom floor and the entire upper floor is designed for eating and relaxing around the fireplace, watching TV, tying flies or shooting a little pool. Picture windows look out to a magnificent view of the green canopy over Bailey Creek and a forested mountain ridge beyond. The entire north side of the building is a spacious deck looking down on a large patio area and a lovely heated 20 x 40 foot pool and jacuzzi. The whole area around the lodge, pool and Jacuzzi is surrounded by lawn, lots of lawn! Bailey Creek Lodge is the perfect place to end each day and share stories over a glass of wine and fine food. The lodge is small enough to reserve the entire venue for a truly private vacation. Outside, a wood deck stretches the length of the windows and affords a great view of Bailey Creek. Below is a very spacious patio area, complete with tables, chairs and an open fire pit bordered by lush garden planters. Walk across manicured lawn to the 20 x 40 foot heated swimming pool or relax in the adjoining hot tub spa. Rates: $275/day per angler (double occupancy) $135/day for the non-angler $300/day for single angler All dates are subject to availability.

Over the past 40 years Dolphins Resort Campbell River has become known as a famous destination BC fishing lodge and vacation resort for two reasons; outstanding fishing and oceanfront accommodations overlooking the inside passage to Alaska. With an ambience of old fashioned charm, Dolphins cozy oceanfront cabins are hidden amongst majestic firs and lush gardens overlooking the inside passage to Alaska. As well as superb salmon fishing, Vancouver Island, British Columbia is also famous for freshwater fishing . “This area has some of the best fly fishing rivers in North America,” says Forbes Magazine in an article about fishing that featured Dolphins Resort. Fly fishing enthusiasts love the local rivers because of the steelhead, considered the finest freshwater game fish in the world. Their fishing guides are always up for a little “expedition” to the inland streams and lakes in search of trout, steelhead and salmon. One experienced fly fishing guide is assigned to two guests and a combination of driftboat or bank fishing is used, depending on the species being fished and the time of the year. All freshwater fishing is catch and release. The Heli-fishing gets you into the backcountry of British Columbia, where the fishing is legendary. Imagine being whisked up a remote fiord with your fishing guide and touching down gently on a gravel bar in the middle of a wilderness where the fish have never seen a hook and the last visitor was probably a bear. “The ride alone is worth the cost of the trip,” says Forbes Magazine. Bring your camera, wildlife viewing and birding are just natural by products of these extraordinary Heli-fishing adventures. Dolphins Resort overlooks the inside passage to Alaska and offers an incredibly diverse menu of activities and adventures. Your family or corporate group will find that our oceanfront location, complete with dock, private beach and bald eagles perched in the trees overhead, makes for a memorable vacation. Their convenient proximity to Campbell River, BC provides a wide range of activities for people to do when they are not fishing. American Fly Fishing Travel

For years Turneffe Flats, (located on Belize’s Turneffe Atoll, the largest and most biologically diverse atoll in the Caribbean), has been known as one of the Caribbean’s premier saltwater fly fishing destinations. The diversity of the saltwater flats fishing sets them apart from other destinations and the opportunity to catch bonefish, permit and tarpon on a given day makes Turneffe Flats one of the rare spots to pursue a ‘Flats Grand Slam’. Join Gary Eblen on his quest for the “Grand Slam” of saltwater fly fishing at this great lodge. 6 days of endless fishing, great lodging, meals and company make this an adventure not soon forgotten. We will fly to Belize on April 17 and arrive at the lodge in the late afternoon. We will fish for the next 6 days and depart the lodge around 8 am on the 24th in time to catch our flights home that afternoon.

Fly Fishing – Pesca Maya Fishing Lodge – Yucatan, Mexico (TRAVL_AFNL_109107)

Fly Fishing - Pesca Maya Fishing Lodge - Yucatan, Mexico (TRAVL_AFNL_109107) width=

American Fly Fishing Travel

Pesca Maya Fishing Lodge has quickly become one of the Yucatan’s most popular fishing destinations. The lodge is located 90 miles south of Cancun in the 1.3 million acre Sian Ka’an (Mayan for “where the sky is born”) Biosphere Reserve. Situated on a long, narrow strip of barrier beach, the lodge is virtually surrounded by water. To the east lies the blue Caribbean and a few hundred yards off shore, the Palancar Barrier Reef which stretches from southern Belize to north of Cancun. On the western side lies the vast “El Rio” system of flats, channels and mangrove. 10 miles to the north is the famed inlet through the barrier beach known locally as the “Boca”. And 4 miles to the south lays the incomparable Ascension Bay. The entire area boasts some of the Caribbean’s greatest flats fishing for bonefish, permit, snook, tarpon and others, as well as reef and offshore fishing (in season). Pesca Maya Fishing Lodge is not listed with AmericanFlyFishingVacations.com. Accommodations: We can take up to 20 anglers in the lodge, sharing rooms; offering our own Fly-Shop, 15 boats with the best guides in the area, and a beautiful beach where you can relax while not fishing. There are 10 rooms, all with A/C and private bathroom, most with oceanview. Located on a solitary white sand beach, turquoise water and a magnificent coral reef at 90 yards from the beach. Fishing: Variety is the word to describe Ascension Bay and Boca-Paila flats. There are hundreds of square miles where it’s common to see bonefish, permit, tarpon and barracuda in the same day – all year round! There are seasons for migrating tarpon and snook – check for the best time. That’s why probably more Grand Slams have been caught here than anywhere else. You certainly have to bring tackle for all these species and at least 3 rods to be ready any time. Two guides per boat: At Pesca Maya we use a head guide and a young apprentice. Both have very good eyes. This formula helps very much when wading, each angler has a guide, when learning to cast or to see the fish, one guide poles and the other is with the angler at the casting platform, when positioning the boat and when you don’t want to wade all the way back to pick up the boat. Many of our customers appreciate it very much. I hope you will too. This unique program really gives outstanding service to the fly fishing anglers. It works! The Flats: Anglers can go south and in 15 minutes be in Ascension Bay or if the wind is too strong we can go north and find flats surrounded by mangroves that help to protect against the wind. Both places are well known for bonefish, permit, tarpon, and barracuda abundance. Pesca Maya is open all year round. Peak season goes from March to June.
